Tyrone Sherrod Still Making an Impact
Former Baltimore City and County Educator Enjoying Seeing the Fruits of His Labor
Tyrone Sherrod dedicated decades of his life to shaping young minds as a teacher and basketball coach in Baltimore City and County. Today, even in retirement, he’s reaping the rewards of his dedication—not in accolades, but in the success stories of his former students.
“I always told them that the lessons we learn in the classroom and on the court go far beyond those walls,” Sherrod shared with a proud smile. “Seeing what they’ve accomplished now, I know they took those lessons to heart.”
Among his former students is Melissa Taylor, a first-generation college graduate who now leads a nonprofit organization addressing literacy disparities in Baltimore. Then there’s Aaron Price, a former team captain on Sherrod’s basketball team, who now owns a thriving construction company that employs over 50 local workers. Others, like Jasmine Lee, credit Sherrod’s guidance for sparking their interest in teaching, continuing his legacy by mentoring a new generation.
“It wasn’t just math or drills,” Price said. “Mr. Sherrod taught us about discipline, respect, and believing in ourselves. Those lessons carried me through when times got tough.”
Sherrod, humble as ever, deflects the praise back onto his students. “I’m just proud to have been part of their journey. They’re the real heroes, and their success is what keeps me inspired.”
Even in retirement, Tyrone Sherrod remains a beloved figure in the community, a shining example of how investing in others can yield a lifetime of rewards.
